A variety of nutritious foods may be consumed following dental surgical procedures and Dr. Tom Conner’s suggestion to follow a soft diet.
A soft diet is made up of foods that are soft and easy to chew and swallow.
Foods are softened by several methods such as cooking, blending or mashing.
All cooked or canned fruits and vegetables are permitted with a soft diet.
Grains such as pasta, breads, crackers and rice may also be consumed, but they must be soft in texture.
Moist and tender meats grounded are acceptable in a soft diet.
Other recommended high-protein foods include eggs, creamy peanut butter and low-fat dairy products.
A variety of desserts such as custards, puddings, frozen yogurt, sherbet and smooth ice cream can be enjoyed also.
Adequate food and liquid intake following surgery is most important.
If you find that eating solid soft foods is too difficult you may supplement your diet with liquids such as Carnation, Instant Breakfast, Ensure, or any other meal substitute products.
